What is GTM Helper?

GTM Helper is a Chrome browser extension that helps marketers and analysts quickly mark elements on a page and create corresponding events and tags in Google Tag Manager.

Features

  • Select element on page — turn on the mode and hover over an element; it will highlight.
  • Sign in to GTM — connect your Google Tag Manager account for sync.
  • Create click events — create events (e.g. GA4 Event) directly from the selected element.
  • Workspace — choose account, container, and workspace and work with tags directly.

How to use

  1. Install the GTM Helper extension from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click “Sign in to GTM” and sign in with your Google account.
  3. Select your GTM account, container, and workspace.
  4. Turn on “Select Element” and hover over the element you want on the page.
  5. Create the event in GTM (e.g. button click) via the “Create in GTM” dialog.
